36 New York Breeder | nytbreeders.org | March 2015 Cancellations give Hard to Stay Notgo an assist; Saratoga Dreamer wins the Rego Park ADAM COGLIANESE/NYRA Te Bromans' Hard to Stay Notgo winning the Franklin Square IN A WINTER THAT'S seen New York racing battered by storm threats and frigid temperatures, you're not likely to fnd a lot of people happy about the two dozen weather-related cancellations at Aqueduct…unless you talk to Jeff Raines, the farm manager for Chester and Mary Broman. The Bromans' homebred Hard to Stay Notgo was entered for a $32,000 claiming tag on Jan. 28. When that card was canceled, trainer Jimmy Jerkens supplemented her to the Feb. 1 Franklin Square Stakes, in which the 3-year-old flly romped to vic - tory over eight New York-bred rivals. Despite a stumble at the start, Hard to Stay Notgo and jockey Angel Arroyo stepped out to a short but uncontested lead up the backstretch, the flly clearly want - ing to be given her head. When Arroyo loosened his grip heading into the far turn, she opened up at will under a hand ride to run the six furlongs in 1:12.30 and win, geared down, by 5 1 ⁄2 lengths. Twice stakes-placed at 2, the More Than Ready flly offered an enticing brood - mare prospect, said Raines, who was convinced she'd have been claimed had she run in January. "They like to take fllies who are black-type placed," said Raines. "They could try to run her a couple of times, and if they fnd out they have a problem child, they have a black-type flly to sell." "We couldn't fnd a race for her," said Steven Moyer, Jerkens' New York assistant, of the decision to enter her in the claiming race, adding that he suspected a forecast - B Y T E R E S A G E N A R O Snow Go
